The Pumpkin Pitch 2025 is right around the corner and the Maryland Innovation Center will once again open its stage to five promising startups on Tuesday, October 7, from 5–8 PM. Each company has a story, a vision and a solution to some of today’s most pressing challenges. This year, SphereHub is one of the standout contestants and their mission is simple but powerful: to revolutionize student living.

From Personal Experience to Startup Vision

SphereHub was born out of founder Hamza’s journey as an international student. Moving to the United States at just 17, Hamza quickly realized how difficult it can be to navigate housing as a student. From not fully understanding tenant rights to experiencing the stress of finding the right roommate, these challenges weren’t unique to him, they were shared by countless students and young professionals.

That realization sparked SphereHub: a platform dedicated to making housing simple, safe and stress-free.

SphereHub’s mission is to seamlessly connect students with compatible roommates and quality housing opportunities. By combining smart technology, thoughtful design and community support, SphereHub aims to eliminate the pain points of student housing and help young people feel confident and supported in one of the most important parts of their lives, where they live.

How SphereHub Works

SphereHub offers more than just listings. Using insights from behavioral science and AI-driven matching, SphereHub connects students with potential roommates who share similar lifestyles, habits and preferences.

Here’s how the process works:

  • Students create a profile by listing their interests, preferences and housing needs.
  • SphereHub’s algorithm generates matches, giving each student a compatibility score to simplify decision-making.
  • Students connect directly with their matches, messaging them to build a connection before moving forward.
  • Listings are integrated, so students can search for available rooms in their area that align with their budget and needs.

The result is a system that not only helps students find a place to live but also builds a community of trust and compatibility.

Why Pumpkin Pitch Matters

For Hamza and SphereHub, stepping into Pumpkin Pitch 2025 is more than just a competition, it’s a growth opportunity.

“I really want to meet like-minded people. I want to meet people who can advise me through this, with more experience. Pitch competitions like this are key for companies like us.”

By sharing SphereHub’s vision on stage, Hamza gains the chance to connect with government leaders, community members and private-sector partners who can provide guidance, feedback and encouragement at a critical stage of growth.

Pumpkin Pitch is designed to do just that: help startups refine their ideas, build networks and gain the confidence needed to scale their business.

The Benefits of Pitch Competitions

Events like Pumpkin Pitch provide value well beyond the prize money. They:

  • Give startups visibility in front of investors, mentors and potential partners.
  • Provide critical feedback to refine business models and strategies.
  • Open doors for collaboration, creating connections with people who want to see startups succeed.
  • Build credibility, showing the community that the startup is worth watching.

For SphereHub, the opportunity to present their mission to such a diverse group of stakeholders could be a turning point in their journey.
